Learn French in France

Our students attend French language courses on an everyday basis. Our French language classes follow the standards of the CEFR-Common European Framework of Reference for Languages- a guideline used to describe the achievements of learners of foreign languages across Europe and, increasingly, in other countries.

In addition to the AP French exam at Notre-Dame International High School, we highly encourage all of our students (aged 16 or above) to take the DELF exam- diplôme d’études en langue française-at the Alliance Française in Paris in May. The exam is available every year. If your child wants to continue his or her education in Europe, passing the DELF is proof of mastery at a specific level of French and can serve as an advantage in college admissions.

Listed below are the four levels of the DELF testing. Your child’s teacher shares her recommendation for the appropriate level with your child so they know which test they are most prepared for:

DELF A1: This level recognizes basic knowledge. It is the most basic level at which a language is used, called the "discovery" stage. At this stage, the learner can interact simply: he/she can speak about him/herself and his/her immediate environment.

DELF A2: DELF A2 is based on the same principle: it recognizes the linguistic competency of a basic user, considered as a social actor. The candidate can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring the most common polite phrases and exchanges of information.

DELF B1: At this level, the user becomes independent. He/she can maintain interaction: he/she can understand and maintain a discussion and give his/her opinion. He/she is capable of dealing with situations likely to arise in daily life.

DELF B2: A B2 user has a degree of independence that allows him/her to construct arguments to defend his/her opinion, explain his/her viewpoint and negotiate. At this level, the candidate has a degree of fluency and spontaneity in regular interactions and is capable of correcting his/her own mistakes.

Students test on two different dates at the exam center in Paris: the first test assesses writing skills and the second one speaking skills.

For your convenience, we organize the registrations for our students who wish to test. The cost of the exam depends on the level:

Niveau (Level)  Inscription (Fee)
    A1                        154 €
    A2                        160 €
    B1                        194 €
    B2                        249 €

During the summer, you may also attend our French summer course in Paris. During the fall, winter, and spring vacations, we also offer you the opportunity to study French in Lyon or to study French in the South of France.

Thanks to our French language summer camps (Paris) and French courses for Juniors all over France, learn French in France and take the opportunity to take French language proficiency tests.
